"Vatican II: Revisited!" - July 26th

THIS WEEK:

We will review and discuss the Council's Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation - "Dei Verbum." This document, though shorter than the other writings of the Council, proved PIVOTAL to Protestant/Catholic dialogue and has been incredibly helpful to articulate the Church's teachings on how God reveals Himself through both Scripture AND Sacred Tradition

Have you ever wondered about what happened to the Church of antiquity or how the Church makes the decisions? Perhaps your parents have discussed a form of Catholicism that you have never heard of or encountered before. Then tune in!

We invite you to join us for a NEW study on the Second Vatican Council (from 1962-1965)! This 10 session study will walk through the historical, cultural, and ecclesiological (Church) context surrounding the Council before diving into both the major writings/documents that came out of the Council and the ramifications on a local parish level.

While the effects of the Council are often widely discussed and debated, few actually take the time to read the Council's writings to see what the Council Fathers actually wrote and proposed. In our study group, you will have the chance to encounter the writings and thoughts of several Council Fathers and theologians around the period as well as the writings and interpretations of Popes after!

*As a note* This study group/class is open to all, regardless of theological education or prowess. If you are just a normal Catholic interested in learning more, you are most certainly welcome and encouraged to attend/participate.

Sessions are normally held Sundays from 2-5pm at Church of the Assumption in the Library, but this week will be from 3-6pm to accommodate the Canal Days before. Light refreshments are often provided.
